Hewitt Philosophy of Homeschooling Choosing a homeschooling curriculum is similar to when you received dozens of college brochures a day as a senior in highschool. Not knowing where to even start, you had to sort through each brochure to see which one's fit your style, personality, and education goals. Homeschool curriculum is very similar. So here we go, how does a balanced, flexible, and complete approach to homeschooling sound? What about a homeschooling program that provides not only academics, but also work projects and community service involvement? If this peeks your interest than you may want to look further into the Hewitt method of teaching your kids at home. Hewitt homeschooling is unique in the fact that it recognizes that academic ability is only one facet in preparing your child too be successful in the years ahead. It places equal emphasis on developing a strong moral character, learning self-discipline, practicing good manners, teaching a strong work ethic, and learning to serve the community. In order to incorporate the above skills into your child's learning experience, the Hewitt approach engrains hands on activities and "out of the classroom" experiences into many of their lessons. Since one very well known concern of homeschooling children is the lack of social skills developed, Hewitt believes in using these out of the classroom and real world activities to make sure your child is gaining the skills necessary to survive out of the home environment. The Hewitt technique of homeschooling also allows for max flexibility. There is always a list of recommendations for your 2nd grader, but the parent is encouraged to evaluate their child's skills, strengths, and weaknesses and configure the curriculum to suit their child. There are many parents who have chosen to use the Hewitt homeschooling method and lots of reviews and resources at your fingertips to help you further make your curriculum decision. Remember, every homeschooling parents has different ideals, morals, and goals in mind. Choose a curriculum that meshes well with where you want to take your child in their educational experience. Make sure you gather alll of the homeschooling information you need to make an informed decision.

What is A Beka Homeschooling? When thinking about home schooling, its easy to begin to be overwhelmed with the right place to begin. Since homeschooling has received more popularity in the 20th century than in the past, there are a lot more resources that you could have found 20 years ago. The downside of this is that there's almost too much information from everyone coming out of the woodwork with his or her ideas, views, and preferred styles regarding homeschooling. For instance, you could spend a whole day just trying to figure out all of your state laws that pertain to homeschooling! You've probably heard ABeka mentioned quite a bit if you are investigating homeschooling. Although there are many types of homeschooling, such as Classical, Montessori, Eclectic, A Beka is not a type of homeschooling, its actually a curriculum package for homeschooled parents to use to teach their children. A Beka is actually a curriculum that supports one of the methods of homeschooling: The Christian Method. Actually, A Beka is one of the most popular Christian homeschooling learning curriculum. It's a curriculum guide that is published in Florida by Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida. A Beka is a complete learning system for your child that has all of the bells and whistle's, such as, teacher's guides, templates for testing, suggested lesson plans, and well written text books. It is well knows that A Beka is a challenging curriculum and is usually one grade ahead of normal public schools. For example, second grade ABeka curriculum is equivalent to first grade public school lesson plans. Its good to note, that A Beka is one of the more expensive Christian curriculums on the market, but is well worth checking it out. You can always look for used books, guides, and lessons plans online or in your Christian book stores if the new curriculum is out of your spending comfort zone. Its also good to check with some of your local homeschooling groups or internet review sites to read up on A Beka curriculum.

The Perks of Home Schooling—for Free! The fact is, you can actually design your homeschooling program in order for it to come free. By ‘free’, we mean that you won’t be spending an extra buck aside from the regular crayons and pieces of paper that a regular school kid would need at the start of a school year. The key to getting free home schooling is taking advantage of the resources around you. The most obvious obstacle in beginning to homeschool your child is the need to create your own homeschooling curriculum. You may opt to purchase your own books to go over possible material, hire a professional to assist you in the creation of this curriculum, or better yet, go online and find a suitable free home schooling curriculum. Online home schooling support sites actually have various options for home schooling curriculum for you to choose from. Because these are all online, you are not likely to spend on transportation, professional fees, and even purchase of books you may not use when you decide you don’t want them in your curriculum. Carrying on with a homeschooling program does not have to be expensive either. If you prefer buying books, you can contact local book dealers. Dealers of book sets have various discounts for home schooling parents like you. The benefits of getting your own book sets include the convenience of having these books in the comfort of your home. The costs of purchasing the books will be well worth it because your succeeding children can make use of these same books when they reach the same educational level. Otherwise, you can opt to take advantage of something closer to home—your town or city library. Your library will likely carry a huge wealth of books (some may no longer be sold in your regular bookstores!) that you can borrow when you need them. With some careful thought and innovativeness, you can easily make home schooling free—both financially and effort-wise. Don’t be afraid to ask around and look for ideas online from other home schooling parents.

Christian Home Study Information The principles and reasons for a Christian homeschool is influenced by the child’s training based from the Bible, wherein the education of the child should be left in the parents’ hands. As seen in all Christian homeschools, parents teach the word of the Lord, to prepare their children for appropriate Christian wisdom, direction and values essential in their everyday life as well as when they reach adulthood. This aspect of teaching is not found in curriculums of the public schools. Christian home schools are distinct for each family. Some accurately design their home to look like a “school”, complete with textbooks, desks, flag salute, and yes, recess. They may even create their own home school curriculum. Others make homeschooling a way of life, choosing not so much in utilizing workbooks, required texts and schedules. Here, both children and parents learn through life experiences; teaching, learning and studying is part of their everyday routine instead of a closely controlled classroom setting. Whatever is each family’s homeschool setup, their objective is all alike, that of giving their children important information while at the same time imparting in them how to become critical thinkers and independent individuals that are aware and conscious of the choices they make. Families that homeschool adjust its setting to fit both their philosophies and lifestyle; there is no wrong or right way to shape and construct an environment for their home Christian school. Christian families make the most of all the limitless resources accessible, using the Bible, literature, home economics, nature and every living thing as their principal basis of education, constantly integrating teachings from the Bible in each subject matter. Christian homeschools allow the parents to impart God’s Word to their child. It is an environment of spiritual and moral reinforcement through which kids are being trained seriously in the Word of God, mainly to act and think as Christians. Typically, the home school curriculum in a Christian homeschool spends a meaningful and substantial time in the study of the Bible, wherein the focus is God’s scripture. Christians choose to home educate their children primarily because of their faith that God's plan is revealed through parents raising and educating their own children. In fact, Christians firmly acknowledge that it is the way of the Bible; there is no other educational system than this. Christians actually accept that God did not even suggeste schools to be attended by His people; that schools were a product of man. The Bible pages support by instruction, example and principle, a course that resembles closely home education.
