What is a cori background check?

"CORI" is: Criminal Offender Record Information. It is a record of all Massachusetts criminal history, including any time anyone was arraigned in court on a criminal charge.

Important to know: No matter what the final outcome of the charge was if you had any arraigned in court on a criminal charge you are in the cori background database!

Does anyone have access? Who can see my CORI?

Most of the employers are allowed to see your CORI data and perform cori checks on people who are applying for jobs. How do they do that? They just ask the Massachusetts Criminal History Systems Board for a copy of the criminal record- that's it, very simple.

Can they see everything? How much do they really get to see?

Well, it depends. Most employers will get to see only convictions and cases that are still open. In some cases, like nursing homes & Public housing authorities they will be allowed to see charges that were not convicted of. In the last case (Public housing authorities) they can only see convictions and open cases and do not get access to all the data.
