Students Showcase Their Essay Writing Skills

Now on its seventh year, the annual Laws of Life Essay Contest pits bright young kids against each other in showcasing their essay writing skills. From a hundred and thirty four entires, ten were chosen winners.
Majel D. Bourdeau took the first place for the fifth graders. Colin E. Fitzgerald won first place for the six graders and Heather R. Mansfield earned top spot for the seventh graders. The victorious enjoyed plaques, cash rewards and English reference books.
The contest combines writing skills and character education, which are important components of the English curriculum. The contest's main goal is to develop the children's writing skills, a factor that is vital in taking the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System exams.
The students tackled delicate matters that includes first hand experiences of being bullied and being adopted. Others tackled ideas in self confidence and integrity. The students showcased their paragraph writing skills and their awareness on life's issues.
